Earthship Biotecture

I am currently volunteering for the company Earthship Biotecture, located just outside Taos, New Mexico. Throughout my internship I will learn the design process of Earthships, and then later follow the company to help in Haiti.

Work at G2

This is the castle compound, one of the grandfathers of the Earthships. A three story building made from thousands of drink cans (probably beer!).

The G2 (global model) site is almost done. There is still a lot of indoor plaster finishes to do, an that's what i've been doing today. With the plaster finish, were adding a colour dye to the cement mix, and using extra fine sand. The bottle walls have been very interesting to finish, and i'll post some photos of that tomorrow!

New Interns!

The new group of interns arrived yesterday! People from Turkey, America, Sweden and Iran! So a great mixture of characters and nationalities. We worked on the Global model of Earthship today. The build is almost finished, so lots of interior plaster finishes to do. Definitely a work out for the arms and shoulders!

I also helped install a solar heater on the roof of the house I'm staying in- yeah more hot water! :)
On Friday, well finish the bottle pillar below on the house, and add a plastic curtain to the kitchen, in an attempt to keep the kitchen above 5 Degrees.

Going to Reach (a group of Earthships cut into the side of a mountain) on Friday, so will post some cool pics then!
